An Adelaide Hills local, Jodie Pilgrim discovered most of her favourite walks and haunts throughout the region with her trusted companion Floyd, an ageing, arthritic beagle who prefers to take things slowly. That’s fine by her because you can miss some of nature’s loveliest gems by going too fast.

Sure she’s done some serious trekking, the Heaphy Track in New Zealand, Larapinta in the Northern Territory, Mount Kinabalu in Borneo, East Malaysia and the steep trails around Whistler Mountain on Canada’s west coast.

On a whim she scrambled up to the base of the Matterhorn in Switzerland just to see what the Toblerone symbol looked like up close.

But you don’t need to be a mountaineering hero. Any walk in nature is a step towards fitness and peace of mind.

“Walking’s my passion,” she says.
“Sometimes you don’t realise how stressed you are until you're in amongst nature and it all falls away.''

A corporate desk jockey until she changed gears into the wine industry a few years ago, Jodie combines her need to maintain fitness with introducing new friends to the beauty of her region and its enterprising farmers and winemakers.

A medium level of fitness is all you require to take part in Wandering Vine walks and if you can’t meet the challenge of the steep incline to Mount Lofty summit, there are always alternatives.

Jodie aims to provide an authentic experience and to enjoy some stimulating conversation with anyone who joins her along the trail.
